Deborah K. Ellis' sources of inspiration are the objects of everyday life and the natural world that surrounds her. Their colors, patterns, shapes and textures fascinate her. She feels that painting these subjects has taught her to view the world differently and to notice aspects of her environment that might otherwise have gone unobserved. Rather than paint exactly what she sees, Deborah prefers to let her response to her surroundings guide her paintbrush. This vision is reflected in paintings which include experimental techniques combined with more traditional applications of transparent watercolor.
Prior to working fulltime as a watercolorist, Deborah had a successful architectural rendering practice in New York City. She uses this strong background in design to frame the basic elements of a painting before she lets it freely grow and change.
Her pieces have been featured in several group and solo exhibitions, and her work is well represented in both private and corporate collections.
