Cynthia MacCollum

Cynthia MacCollum lives, works and breathes art. Educated at Washington University in St. Louis, she names nature as her biggest influence. "As a starting place for my art, I love to go for long walks. I look for inspiration everywhere and find that travel opens my mind to new images and new ways of seeing things."

Cynthia's art begins as a doodle, a thumbnail sketch or as words, followed by pencil and watercolor sketches. Final artwork is either painted on silk, using silk paints, or on paper with watercolor paints. "Painting on silk can be delightful because the paint dries slowly and can be blended easily, creating an overall effect of sheerness and transparency."

Cynthia has been perfecting this process professionally for seven years in her successful scarf business, Hang the Moon Art. She designs over 100 scarves a year for department and specialty stores across the country, including The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
